Classic Martini
The king of cocktails. Gin and dry vermouth — chilled to perfection. Simple, iconic, utterly non-negotiable in its elegance.
01 Ingredients
02 Method
Chill a martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Add gin and vermouth to a mixing glass with ice.
Stir for 30 seconds — never shake a Martini.
Strain into the chilled glass.
Garnish with a lemon twist (express the oils over the drink) or an olive.
The Martini: Cocktail Royalty
“I have never tasted anything so cool and clean. They made me feel civilized.” — Ernest Hemingway on Martinis.
Stirred, Not Shaken
James Bond was wrong. Shaking a Martini bruises the gin and clouds the clarity. Always stir. The Martini should be crystal clear.
The Vermouth Question
A dry Martini means less vermouth. A perfect Martini uses equal parts dry and sweet vermouth. The ratio is entirely personal.
