01 Ingredients

Fill a copper mug (or highball glass) with ice.
Pour in the vodka and lime juice.
Top with cold ginger beer — don't stir, just let it cascade in.
Garnish with a lime wedge and mint sprig.
The Moscow Mule: The Copper Mug Phenomenon
Invented in 1941 at the Cock ‘n Bull pub in Hollywood as a marketing stunt by vodka importer John Martin, the copper mug was part of the original gimmick — and it stuck.
Does the Copper Mug Matter?
Yes — copper conducts temperature extremely well, keeping the drink colder longer. It also mutes some of vodka’s sharper notes.
