Puerto Rico officially declared the Piña Colada its national drink in 1978. The cocktail was invented in 1954 at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan.
Cream of Coconut vs Coconut Cream
Cream of Coconut (Coco Real or Coco Lopez) is sweet and thick — perfect for Piña Coladas. Coconut cream is unsweetened and will produce a different result.
